So the other day I was talking with someone about the Muskie plan to slash Big Gubmint down to the bone. I said: think about this. Years ago and agency discovered that all the big banks were deliberately processing debts before processing deposits, if they came in the same night. They did this so they could overdraft the accounts, charge overdraft fees and then make the deposits, taking the fee amounts out of the deposits.
It was criminal and it was standard practice because they thought they could get away with it. They had money in the bank, deposits to cover the payments but they waited so they could collect the fees.
An agency, I said the kind of agency these guys want to do away with, caught them, forced them to stop and made them pay fines and return some of the money to their account holders.
Do you remember that, I asked.
She did.
I told her folks are going to regret this in the worse kinds of ways. The billionaires want to go back to the good old days when no agency is big enough or cares enough to defend the people from them.
And guess what?
That very same agency is brought up by some neoliberal billionaire on Joe Rogan's show and he talks about how they need to do away with it... to unleash the free markets.
People.
People.
Try to pay attention.
These billionaires, Rogan included, are NOT ON OUR SIDE.
They are going to go back to that. You know the billionaire lied about what that agency does. He blamed them for something that Chase did on it's own.
It's the banks taking people's accounts in Canada if they participated in the trucker convoy a year or so ago.
It's the banks that got paid with the TARP bailouts.
Joe Rogan can wear all the tee shirts he wants but he has never been one of the guys. He's never had a real job. I bet he can't even swing a hammer.
He's a midget born to privilege who's now sucking up to power since he knows full well what's coming.
Back in the day he would have tried to get the job of Pinochet's PR guy.
They are all running for cover now folks.
It's gonna get wild.
I wonder who's the first to be
You make an excellent point, Scott. But the FBI has overreached it's original mission and become a political tool of the very same banksters and oligarchs who have been screwing us over for the last couple of decades. There are plenty of other government agencies to protect Americans from abuse by banks and Wall Street predators. FTC, SEC, CFPB, FFIEC, CSBS, etc. These are all subject to enforcement by Department of Justice (also in dire need of reform, but can't be eliminated).
This begs the question: Have these agencies already been neutered by regulatory capture? I don't know. But there seems to be little point in funding government regulatory and/or law enforcement agencies which no longer protect us.
